What is the Problem With the Gm Vehicles Ignition Switch?Beginning in February of 2014, approximately 800,000 vehicles were recalled because of defects with the ignition switches which can lead to vehicles shutting off without warning and the airbags to begin failing if a heavy keychain has been used or if the ignition was hit with the knee which can happen in an accident. This recall grew and included almost 2.6 million vehicles. The General Motors Company also recognized that injuries as well as deaths have happened in vehicles linked to the recall. Following the announcement of this recall, it was determined that GM knew about the safety issues with ignition switches and failed to take any action. The General Motors Company has had several recalls and safety problems throughout the years with minor problems; however, the ignition switch problem is a serious safety issue because of the possibility of accidents occurring without warning and leading to severe injuries and even death. The vehicles involved in the recall for the ignition switch include:
- 2005 to 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt
- 2006 to 2007 Chevrolet HHR
- 2006 to 2007 Pontiac Solstice
- 2007 Pontiac G5
- 2003 to 2007 Saturn Ion
- 2007 Saturn Sky
